Drumming for Everyone

Help me give my students enough drums for the whole class to play together at the same time.

My Students

Drumming creates a sense of community which is something my students need. Many of my students feel isolated and drumming is a way to bring the class together.

The drums are easily accessible to all of my students and help them grow as individuals, socially and emotionally.

Students not only learn rhythms, they learn how to work as a group, take turns, play a solo, and more. My students love creating beats and the drums are the perfect outlet for them. I once had a student play Darth Vader's theme rhythms on the drum for his solo. The class loved it!

Students enjoy playing the drums and would appreciate having more so they can all play together at the same time. If we have more drums, the students can have more performance opportunities.

My Project

The drums will be used in music class so every student has an opportunity to use their own drum. Every year, I have a group of students accompany the Chorus on a song. I am hoping to expand our performance opportunities.

We practice reading rhythms, keeping a steady beat, and progress to learning African rhythm patterns in 5th grade.

The students are able to play as a class or break off into smaller groups. This gives the students the chance to play multiple parts at once which is a musical skill that is hard to achieve. I'm looking forward to coming up with more ideas for the classroom with the students having access to more resources.
