Drumline and Orchestra Supplies

Help me give my students these basic tools for making our drumline effective with new heads and mallets, and orchestra productive with music to help us play together.

My Students

More than 75% of our students are free and reduced lunch. We are a multi-cultural school, with students from over 50 countries represented. We have a large percentage of English Language Learners and special needs students, many of whom will benefit from these resources.

We are experiencing music as a bridge between our cultural differences, and as a place to express feelings.

Having music as a safe outlet for anxiety, fear, anger, love, and friendship, is a healing experience. Singing together allows us to transcend our differences and focus on what makes us similar.

My Project

My students needs some replacement heads for the quads, new mallets for the bass drums, and pads for gripping the cymbals. We're also requesting some basic chorale books for working on our intonation and tone quality in orchestra. These material allow the winds and strings to play together, which is the current configuration of 2 instrumental classes. The learning outcome will be students who are able to create, perform, and express themselves using music. This is how students develop self-confidence, problem solving and collaboration skills.

The students at Our High School are very diverse, representing countries from around the world, and all races.

Many have never participated in a music class until this year. Percussion is a great outlet for frustration and the roller coaster emotions that go with adolescence. It also builds a camaraderie that strengthen our community.

The orchestra students are currently mixed with wind students in order to open the class to more students who are furthest from educational justice. There are students who were introduced to the violin, viola, cello, and bass this past September for the first time, and students who have been playing since the 3rd grade. I'm searching for a wide variety of repertoire to help the students develop their skills and learn to enjoy playing instruments.
