To have the industry standard, a work horse of a tape measure, all stocked up for the 1st day of school meant the world to me. Tape measures are expensive because we have so many students using them every single day! In many ways, it's a consumable. It's a tool that certainly has a lifespan that is shorter than most tools. Summer school classes are about 5 hours, which is a long day for the kids. Having something to build back up some energy or just to have a moment to take a break with a snack makes a big difference in the students. I can see them get excited for a little something to break up the day. \r\n\r\nOur summer class worked on a special project that will help train students for many years to come. They framed up the walls of a house and helped get the rafters up, along with plywood and framed in windows and doors! All in 3 and a half weeks with 14-17 year old's! It's really amazing to see the kids so laser focused, yearning to learn the next thing, and building something that is so special. Please take a look at the photos, you will love it!\r\n\r\nPlywood starts going up on the rafters tomorrow and that is when this new ladder will make a giant difference. Having a stable and secured ladder that students will be able to use to get up and down safely makes the difference. \r\n\r\nThis ladder is so diverse too, it's going to come in handy when we teach how to make stairs and how this ladder can be used to work on stairs.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for the support, for believing in the program, and for making it safet for the kids to work here. He uses the weighted blanket every day and it helps him relax when he otherwise would be very anxious and frequently asking to go home. \r\n\r\nSome of our students require the use of fidgets and scented items in order to progress through their daily schedules at school. Dot paints have helped students who don't otherwise have the fine motor ability to participate in art and writing to access these activities with a greater level of independence. \r\n\r\nStudents enjoyed making collages with all kinds of materials including pom poms, shapes and sparkles. Several of the games incorporate practicing basic skills such as counting and color, shape or number/letter recognition. \r\n\r\nStudents look forward to weekly game time and enjoy playing. It's sparked hundreds of discussions and caused virtually all of my students to both find themselves and learn about others.\r\nWhat's perhaps most impactful is the globe. It has allowed me to teach about how map projections are always imperfect, and fascinated even my least engaged students.
