My Students

I have the honor of teaching music to almost every student at a Title I public Montessori school.

I teach music to 3 and 4-year-olds through eighth-graders. This is my ninth year of teaching and my second year at my current school. I have around 20 to 26 students in each class at a time, who come from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, and are all very proud to go to our school, which serves as their home away from home.

Music reaches my students in ways that traditional academic classes do not. All my students are very enthusiastic to be in music class, singing and playing instruments.

My Project

The first time I ever saw a Cajon drum, I said to myself, I have to get one of those for our classroom! I am really focused this year on getting my students to become leaders in the class. Giving them the platform to be as creative as they possibly can. And what better way to do this than with a Cajon drum! You can place it in front of the class and the leader will sit on it and tap out a rhythm for the class. I can't think of a better way to get kids more excited about leading their class, can you?

It's a chair, a drum, and a place to become a leader all in one!
