My Project

Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares students to be effective readers, but it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. MES is a 100% Title One school, meaning that we are a very low socio-economic school. Many students do not have books in the home. This project will give families the opportunity to read aloud in their car, as they drive thru the drop-off/pick-up line, take a walk around the school track, or come to school for our Learning Symposium! We will have enlarged books in our drive-thru, as well as positioned along the walking track, for families to enjoy reading together. We will also be giving each student a new book to take home to read with their family.

"When a whole school reads a book, there's a lot to talk about!" We are building a Community of Readers at our school!
