This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The population range of our students is from poor to middle class within the school and the school district. The school is the oldest African American high school and has a proud and supportive alumni who continue to assist with keeping up with the school's integrity and tradition. The students are very tech savvy and are very open-minded in learning foreign music. Students who have been placed in some of the music classes offered at the school have expressed their interest in music technology. The students seek lessons that are more engaging through technology based music instruction.
Currently my students need socks, shoes, and pants to be able to perform, audition and attend interviews.
My Project
The socks, shoes, and pants will make a difference in my student's lives because they will be able to perform concerts and recitals. In addition, the students will we able to use the clothing to participate in school functions, auditions and interviews. The dress racks are for storage purposes and easy access for students to use. Some students have not been able to participate in concerts, or auditions because the students did not have the proper clothing. Usually there were additional socks, pants, etc available; however, due to air remediation because of mold and mildew, we had to discard the clothing and some of the uniforms. Having these items will encourage our students and prevent them from being embarrassed from not having them.
