Dreaming Big, Creating Learners in Our Class

My Project

Learning can be challenging and frankly, a little boring sometimes in at our grade level. I have requested items for creative and engaging learning opportunities for my students on this DonorsChoose.org project. From the always loved Where's Waldo books and cookbooks to the assortment of puzzle cubes, our class is not the ordinary homeroom.

One favorite project of my students is learning fractions, measurement and formation of new substances through the science (and math) of cooking!

Previously, students have participated in making buttermilk and butter from whipping cream, baking pancakes from scratch, and even baking bread! I need supplies and tools, including the kitchen utensils, cookbooks and griddle, to be able to continue this activity for future classes. Plus, the students love looking through the cookbooks to take home recipes to try with their families.

I, also, discovered my students love searching for Waldo in various Where's Waldo books and solving puzzle cubes. (Don't you love the '90's). This has been a favorite pastime for after State Testing and the one book I have has become "well-loved!"

Lastly, every classroom uses a multitude of supplies to succeed. The bright papers, the storage items, the room decor, all contribute to a learning environment geared to sparking creativity, genuine interest and engagement in some of those more challenging or boring times in the classroom.
