My 2nd grade class is diverse in so many ways.
Our school is a Title I school in a high poverty area with students who LOVE to come to school. Unfortunately a good number of our students live in homes that are lacking in technology and resources. We have students who are way below grade level to students who get to skip a grade level in certain subjects. Our school has a huge achievement gap and due to this wide range of students. I myself have students reading from a kindergarten level to a 4th grade reading level in 2nd grade.
My Project
My dream is to have a classroom that has an ipad for every child in my class by next year. I have been able to test out some apps with my whole class by signing out 2 sets of iPads, but I won't always be able to do that since so many other teachers use them as well. We have been using apps such as Kahoot! to review content they have already learned. This game makes it fun and shows me how much they know. Another app that they and I love is Nearpod. This allows me to create lessons that I can share out to each iPad and it allows them to interact by drawing, writing and completing quizzes throughout the lesson. It also allows them to view each other's work and help them understand what they may have done wrong. I love this app because they are so engaged and have shown great growth in their learning. Another app we just started using is Classkick. It is great for independent work. It allows the students to raise a hand to ask for help right to my ipad. There are so many great iPad apps!
Having one-to-one iPads would make learning extremely fun and engaging.
Being able to use all of these and many more amazing educational apps will allow the students to be creative in their presentation of their knowledge. It will also prepare these students for the 21st century where technology is everywhere. I would love some support in getting these iPads so all donations help in such a big way. Please help these kids learn in a fun and engaging way!
