My Students
Most of my 30 years in teaching has been in rural schools among families who experience generational farming, hunting for pleasure and food, and having extended family living nearby. Now I'm teaching in an urban school among families who experience entertainment and manufacturing jobs, apartment and mobile home housing, and living with extended family. Now, Mom didn't bring home her season's first buck. She brought home a 20 buck tip. Grandpa didn't take Dad and me fishing. Grandpa is Dad and took me fishing.
But what all these kiddos have in common is: they're children who love learning, experiencing life, and learning what their passions are.
My Project
Libraries are called Media Centers to reflect the broad scope of resources they provide. I get to be the weekly teacher of 450+ students who not only engage in the magic of books, but get to experience the broader scope of media, which will include interactive manipulatives like the magnet building sets I would like to add to my library.
Students can engage in their own story-making by building people, creatures and places with these magnet sets that can take them places like the words of a story might do!
