My Project

My students are a diverse group of approximately 30 high school learners, ages 13–20, with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and other health impairments. Most spend much of their school day in general education classrooms, while receiving specialized instruction and support to help them access the curriculum and become more independent learners.

My primary roles is helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to be successful in mathematics.

For many of my students, traditional math instruction; pages of numbers, formulas, and written notes, can quickly become overwhelming. They may struggle with working memory, organization, attention, processing information, or remembering a multi-step process.

But struggling with traditional instruction does not mean they cannot understand mathematics.

My students often succeed when information is presented visually, creatively, and in smaller, organized pieces. I want to give them more opportunities to draw, color, organize, and visually represent mathematical ideas rather than simply copying another page of notes.

Doodle Notes combine mathematics with drawing, color, graphic organization, and visual representations. Instead of asking students to passively copy formulas and examples, these materials encourage them to interact with the information and create visual connections between concepts.

The materials will support instruction in foundational skills such as fractions, decimals, integers, equations, inequalities, ratios, proportions, percentages, geometry, probability, graphing, slope, and introductory algebra.

My goal isn't simply to make math more entertaining. It is to make mathematics more accessible.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
