LNHS is an inner-city at risk High School with 65% free and reduced lunch qualified students. Due to the quarantine, the students are doing online learning. I teach both 2D and 3D beginning and advanced art classes. Many of our students have limited access to materials to actually complete assignments at home. Considering treating all students in a equal manner, I would like to secure art supplies that could be included in learning packets. I believe that this would be an amazing way for the students to release some of the anxiety they are feeling due to this pandemic.
My Project
Many of our students were sent home without the knowledge that they would not be coming back to school. As stressful as the pandemic has been to our nation, our at risk students are placed in even more difficult circumstances with food shortages, parental loss of income and so on. Teaching art online is a challenge and I want to level the playing field so that students are able to do some drawing and journaling during this time of crisis. I am teaching through Google Classroom, have lesson assignments, but will need to distribute art materials to all those who need them so that we can have equity across our student population. Each student would get individual drawing tools with an instructional packet when they pick up their weekly food allotments.
