My Students

I am so excited to be able to offer a real book published by my students. My second graders will have an opportunity to visit, work and plan, publish and receive a copy of their very own original book.

I work at a small, urban International Baccalaureate Magnet School.

While less than 1/2 of our students receive free and reduced lunch, we have a large Special Education and ELL population. My school believes in working together to provide the best and highest quality educational opportunities for our students. We believe in offering authentic learning experiences which move students to action.

My Project

My two second grade art/media classrooms will each work through the Design and Writing Cycle to write their very own original book. They will decide whether it will be an informational text, manga, coloring book, chapter or picture book. We will then work with Beautiful Matter Books to help us edit, format and publish the book, as she will make two classroom visits to help us through our writing process. The artist will then make sure that each student receives a copy of the finished product, with the bonus of being able to buy subsequent copies from Amazon.

Can you imagine writing an actual book which will be available to the world?

You can help us and you too will receive a copy of our books. The students came up with this project and asked the artist/publisher to help us, help me make their action plan come to fruition.
