This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Welcome to Pre-K! Our classroom is very diverse and is comprised of students from all parts of the city. We have students from all walks of life, including English Language Learners, Autistic Support Students, Learning Support students and students that are economically disadvantaged. Many of our students come from broken homes and do not have the advantages that come from having a stable home environment. Eighty-seven percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Though many of my students are faced with many challenges, they are always excited to learn!

My classroom is comprised of 17 absolutely wonderful three, four, and five-year-old children.

Every day these young students walk into the classroom with smiles on their faces and are eager to learn, play, and grow. The Pre-K classroom is a busy environment where student learning is infinite. In our classroom everyone is a teacher, adults teach children, children teach their peers and it makes my heart smile that everyday children also have the opportunities to teach adults.

My Project

This table and chairs with storage will continue to enhance the dramatic play center that we are trying to create. My classroom dramatic play center is a place that my students really enjoy- they pretend to be mommy, daddy, chef’s, etc.

Recently our table leg broke in half leaving our dramatic play center without a table.

The children have adapted and have been using the floor like a table however a table surface would be more ideal. Recently watching the students adapt to their new table-less environment I asked them if they would like to have any other food in their kitchen to pretend with and they suggested an ice cream shop and drinks.

With these new items, my students will be able to choose from a variety of food to play imaginatively and then have easy clean up that is located in the seat as storage. The addition of the rug will soften the dramatic play environment as currently, the floor is a cold tile floor.
