Drama! Puppets! Stories! Oh, My!

My students need a puppet theater, puppets, and high interest books to help practice reading and retelling! These also help develop background knowledge and understanding for the lessons they will experience at our K-12 school.

My Students

My students come to school each day prepared to bring their very best in academic achievement, behavior, and attitude and challenges them to attain their highest potential. They work very hard at being the best version of themselves and concentrate on displaying citizenship, integrity, perseverance, excellence, and respect. They expect the very best from their teachers as we uphold these standards.

We educate each other in a classical enviroment that teaches truth, beauty and goodess, prepares students to be exemplary and knowledgeable citizens, instills a life long passion for learning, and values self discipline.

At a first grade level, my students have embodied these priniciples and devour every academic lesson provided to them. My school and classroom are comprised of a very diverse group of students, many of which have come from other countries. Many students came not speaking any, or limited English, and need background experiences to help them comprehend literature that is a part of our curriculum.

My Project

First graders need plenty of opportunities to read and retell their stories. Puppet play is the perfect developmental activity for my students to do so in a fun way! My students who are of diverse backgrounds need background knowledge for which to build upon to be successful at our classical K-12 school.

In first grade, we study the classic fables and fairy tales, alongside other high-interest, high-engagment, self selected reading books at their reading level to accomplish our goals of developing strong readers who love to read!

Using puppets to retell our stories helps my students really engage with their learning. Also, having plenty of high interest stories available for them to choose from to read and interact with helps them further develop background knowledge and an understanding of grade level concerns and issues.
