My students need materials that they can touch with their hands to help them understand new English vocabulary. The Community Workers Book Set and Block Play People will allow them to play dramatically while reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Olah! Como estas? My Spanish speaking students are from a depressed area of a large urban school district. They range in English Language abilities from novice to intermediate to expert. They come from many different countries and share the Spanish Language.
As we work toward their language goals, we strive to incorporate their culture and language in their use and learning about English.
We strive to increase their English, without taking away their first language. They are excited about learning English and they love to share their language with me.
My Project
In kindergarten and first grade, the students are drawn to learning in a kinesthetic way. The community helper action figures, and books, will allow them to play and use language while also being able to be creative.
In a classroom of English Language Learners, the vocabulary is one of the hardest areas to teach.
However, being able to touch, move, and manipulate items can encourage students to recall more words, and increase their ability to speak and understand English.
These objects and materials will allow them to act out being a doctor, put matching theme words together, or move farm animals into positions that are funny. The more they are able to manipulate realistic people and animals, the more language they learn and are able to use.
