My Project

Community Cares began three years ago, as a middle school elective class. It was envisioned to be an outreach between our school, community leaders, organizations, and charity groups. We were looking for a way in which our small school could make a big impact not only on our school community but our larger community. Students began to show interest and signed up to participate. Each quarter starts with students researching charities that they are interested in, assessing their needs as well as our ability to help. They are then responsible for creating a presentation to all members, in an attempt to sway opinion towards their chosen idea. This becomes a lively, informative, all-in discussion, and debate in which many students develop a passion for the cause. We have multiple rounds of voting, until we have a majority of students agree to combine all our resources, talents, and hard work for one good cause.

This quarter we had two young students see a need within our own school, and very passionately convinced sixty-two other students to come on board.

They desperately want us to have our own Food Pantry and Clothing Closet for our families. A resource any family may use when circumstances arise that they find themselves needing a little lift.

This will be our biggest challenge to date, but these amazing students are facing it head-on. They have found space to house the pantry and closet in the school, and are ready to redesign the space to make it more family-friendly.

These furniture items will create a welcoming, comfortable, private setting for students and their families to "shop" in our Dragon's Lair.
