My students need eye pillows, liquid floor tiles, LED string lights, a calming sensory projector, light filters, essential oils, diffuser bracelets, and a diffuser to create a calming, stress-free space for our students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever gone to a special place and watched dragons fly? Our dragons soar every day. We have a beautiful castle on the hill, where we inspire our dragons to reach for the clouds. We would like to create other special area around the school for our dragons to continue nurturing their love of learning.
Our students come from high crime, food scarce, challenging environments.
Over 90% of our children live in stark poverty and 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Unfortunately, transportation to the library and resources for academic enrichment programs is scare and buying books is a luxury many families cannot afford.
My Project
We all know that growing up in this day and age is very different from our childhood. Our students today deal with so much more than we can image. They come to school most days to get away from their environment to a safe haven within the walls of our school. We would like to provide an additional space within our school for those times when the outside world follows our students to school. We want to create a stress-free, no drama, meditation space that our students can use to relax, relate, and release.
We are beginning to understand how trauma in society plays a key role in shaping the whole child.
I am requesting eye pillows, liquid floor tiles, LED string lights, calming sensory projectors, light filters, essential oils, a diffuser and diffuser bracelets to create a relaxing space that students can go to when they start to feel the stress closing in around them. We will use the eye pillows and calming sensory projector to create a peaceful area that allows the student to relax and close their eyes and escape to another place. The light filters will cover the hard white light and then the LED string lights will create a starry, wonderland effect to work on the senses. The essential oils, diffuser, and diffuser bracelets will be used for those who a calming scent brings them relief. The liquid floor tiles will work for those students who are tactile and visual. We really appreciate your help in making this possible, especially in these challenging times.
