Our school is home to a special education program for pre-kindergarten students through 6th grade with multiple disabilities. Our classrooms work together to provide the most inclusive and enriching experience for our students.
These students are the most brilliant individuals I have ever met.
Our students range from 3 years old to students in 6th grade. They each have multiple disabilities, other health impairments, or learning disabilities. Their disabilities can cause them to have difficulty learning, communicating, eating, and moving their bodies. They are hard-working and strong individuals who will not let any of that slow them down.
During our trip to the farm, the students will experience a day full of multi-sensory activities. We will get to visit the petting zoo, corn crib, discovery barn, play area, and go on a hayride.
Every student can participate and experience new things with the support of their parents and teachers.
The students will get to interact with various animals in the petting zoo; they can touch them, learn about them, and ask questions about them. The Corn Crib is a giant "sandbox" with corn kernels instead of sand. Children with various sensory disorders may like the experience and feeling of the corn kernels. The Discovery Barn is filled with learning activities that focus on nutrition and farm-to-table freshness. We will spread our wings in the play areas, using gross motor skills while having loads of fun. On the Hay Ride, we will also get to learn about the life cycle of a pumpkin.
So many fun learning experiences packed into one day!
