My students need two Chromebooks, listening earbuds, and an eno board wire to access learning resources and hone their technical skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ready, Set, LEARN! From the moment my 4th grade scholars enter the classroom each morning and I see their smiling faces, I can feel the potential and excitement in the air: we are ready for a new day of learning.
I teach two classes of 4th grade children from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds in a large urban school district.
My students are motivated to learn and long to be successful. They overcome many personal challenges, including not having access to computers at home. For some, school is the only place they can access the internet, learn how to type, work on a research project, share a Google Doc, create a Google Slide show. It is hard to hold our children accountable for completing 21st century projects when tech access is scarce. Let's work together to help them!
My Project
Having just two Chromebooks in my classroom will literally DOUBLE the amount of computer access these young students have in school on a daily basis. They currently have two slow, old Dell desktops that are ready to retire (and one non-working one). A school set of laptops is shared among six classes, so we get to borrow these once every six days. Needless to say, it is not nearly enough to prepare 4th graders to be computer literate when our supplies are severely lacking and access is rare.
Chromebooks and earbuds will be used during Centers time when students can read and listen to differentiated, interactive e-books to boost fluency and reading comprehension while working independently from the teacher.
These materials will help struggling readers to independently access their favorite fun reading websites like Reading A-Z, Moby Max, and Flo-cabulary. ESL students can utilize Starfall, Google Translator for assignments, and get TIME for Kids magazine online in Spanish to pair with the English magazine subscription we received (thanks to Donors!) An eno board Y-splitter will additionally help me to present English lessons more efficiently rather than plugging and unplugging my desktop computer for each transition. I hope you can help me improve the learning experience for our 4th grade children. No amount is too small to make a difference! Thank you!
