Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When students have the resources to learn, they can go far. When students have quality resources, they feel invested in and valued and will go far. When it comes to reeds, having them on hand for students has far more benefits than expecting them to make that lofty investment.

Bassoons and oboes are common band instruments, but they have an uncommon, and expensive, reed situation.

Double reeds are time-consuming and labor-intensive to make, which makes them three or four times more expensive than a single reed. And expecting a student to spend $12 on an oboe or bassoon reed, which lasts three to four weeks, if the craftsmanship is of good quality and the cane is grown in the optimal conditions, is hard to maintain. Having this supply on hand eliminates the concern of "How am I going to buy a reed?" or, "I can't even try to play this instrument because it's too expensive." When there are adequate resources, amazing things begin happening.
