Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

When my students create, they open doors into their unique personal experiences and growing character. We enjoy hearing how music expresses who they are, and are becoming. Our staff has adopted a school-wide focus on social-emotional learning, and the arts are playing an important role in helping students with self and social awareness.

Headphones will allow them to create, analyze, evaluate, refine, and present their best selves through their electronic and personally-recorded music.

Their music will be based on big ideas of expressing identity through personal music and developing social awareness through the experience of others' music. This addresses national, state, and district standards for creating, connecting, and responding, and social-emotional learning goals. The headphones will be used both in the physical classroom and in students' home spaces through scheduled sanitation and checkout.

Our community is excited to hear about the diversity of our school through the music we create. Headphones will provide for increased student voice in our learning spaces and connected communities
