My Students

Do you remember when you got your first iPod? My students and I are a little behind the times. We would love to have an iPod to help with reading fluency and other academic skills!

I teach fourth and fifth graders in a big city in Texas.

They are all beginner English speakers. They have just moved to the United States from all around the world. They have many different first languages. My students are from Pakistan, Mexico, Vietnam, El Salvador, and the Philippines. I have the best group of children. They are wonderful to teach because they are kind and are eager to learn.

My Project

I am requesting an Apple iPod. Students will take turns using the iPod to practice reading fluency. Our first goal in our classroom is to work on oral language skills. They have to learn to read in a new language. Most of my students do not have someone that speaks English at home to help them. The apps I can purchase for the iPod will help with fluency. When they improve their fluency rate, they will improve their reading comprehension. My students are expected to take state level tests. I want them to be successful as they go into a regular ESL class next year. They are such smart students and I want them to have every opportunity that I can provide for them.

This project is so important because it will help my students with their reading.

I will be so excited to see their confidence grow. Our school's theme is "Reach for the Stars." Your generosity will help my students reach for their goals. Thank you for supporting a wonderful group of students!
