This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from various backgrounds in Los Angeles. All are under five years old and diagnosed with a qualifying disability. Each student has an individualized education plan which will help them in their long-term school careers.
My classroom employs the Reggio Emilia approach to student learning.
This approach emphasizes the environment as the third teacher. This means that I, as one of the other teachers, set up the classroom environment with particular attention to student interests, connections to nature, and their unique developmental needs. I provide opportunities and invitations for exploration and learning while maintaining respect for the child as a growing and capable individual.
My Project
Most teachers can agree that a quality printer is necessary for any classroom. A reliable printer can allow teachers to print essential materials needed for the learning environment and experience. Documentation is an integral part of the Reggio Emilia approach, which I utilize in the classroom. The printer will serve as a tool in producing documentation of students' experiences in the school through pictures and quotes, which are placed throughout the school. This helps students connect their learning to real-life experience, produces an opportunity for language development, and helps students feel included in their classroom environment.
