The saying goes that a picture tells a thousand words. My students want to tell their stories using pictures. Help give them the opportunity!
My students are 28 amazing kids at an inner city charter school in southern California.
They are mostly Latino. The goal of our school is to send ALL of them to college. Not only send them, but prepare them to compete academically at the top 100 in the country once they are there. In order to do that, they need rich educational experiences to get there.
A camera will allow my students to make their projects into more than just pencil and paper activities. We'll use our camera across the curriculum. In science, we'll use it to keep track of our ongoing experiments. In language arts, we'll use it to make articles and stories we work so hard to write come alive. In math, we can photograph the math that's all around us at school (have you ever gone on an isosceles triangle hunt?).
We'll even use it to strengthen our classroom community and culture by keeping a photo journal of our growth, progress, challenges, and celebrations throughout the year.
So many students get bored with school.
What can we do to change that and keep that spark of learning bright? We can give them solid and rich educational experiences. A camera in the classroom is just one way to do that. Help enrich my students' classroom!
