Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school empowers 538 students. 100% of our students fall below the poverty line and are provided with free breakfast and lunch. Many of the students at our school strive to be the first college graduates in their families. However, many students are English Language Learners and thus, struggle with reading.
Many of my students have come to me with talk about relatives being killed in crime related incidents, hearing gunshots at night while they sleep, and trouble that their parents have been in in the past.
I am grateful to have twenty smiling, helpful, willing to learn students in my classroom this year. My students are absolutely amazing because, regardless of what their home life is like, and what is going on around them, they are always willing to try their best, help their friends when needed, and come to school everyday with a smile on their face!
My Project
This document camera will be a life saver for our classroom! My firsties are extremely dependent on modeling, and with a document camera the students would be able to see the worksheet displayed on the board. That very famous saying "Seeing is believing" is exactly what these students need to do to learn. These students need to have that visual to learn from. Many of my students are students with special needs and they are visual learners.
With a document camera, I can model writing under the camera and make the corrections instead of writing the sentences on the board.
I can place the reading worksheets underneath the camera, that way students can see what I am highlighting or how I am editing the text.
Having the document camera will allow for a greater success rate in learning and overall have a better understanding. The students can use the document in all subjects area and will be able to follow along throughout the day and have a clearer understanding.
This donation will allow the students to have a greater success rate and a greater interest in learning.
These students right now have a low interest in learning. It is difficult to inspire these students, when there are no resources for the students to learn from. By adding a source of technology in the classroom can add to classroom management and the students learning. A document camera will really help the students comprehend and visualize the work which will better enhance their learning!
