This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students face many challenges, more so than the norm, and even though our county and school strive to keep us supplied with everything we need, sometimes things fall through the cracks. This could significantly advance them, as they could truly follow along while we read.
Although my students are considered middle school aged, most only read at a lower elementary level.
We are a special school that caters to K-12, and we have the most challenged students in our district. Some may be Autistic, some have severe emotional disorders, and many had very rough beginnings. It is especially important that we reach these students, and keep them from dropping out. Many are frustrated because they have learning disabilities, and they need many extra pushes to gain reading ability.
My Project
By using a document camera, we could truly follow along as we read. It would also allow everyone to use the workbook pages, as we have only a few actual workbooks, but they really help with our reading lessons. This would also allow us to read books together that we only have one copy of. We have a very limited supply of books for entire classes.
If we receive this document camera, we will be able to read more books without requiring a class set.
The students can be exposed to more technology than they've ever seen. This would allow much more versatility in our reading lessons.
