My Students

My classroom is a lively place. My students are usually having discussions about class topics, working on a project or reading or writing. I currently teach Government/Econ and usually teach US History.

I have a great group of students this year.

They have different perspectives and life experiences. Many of them are considered low-income and a lot of them need extra help with their reading and writing skills. Most them are looking forward to learning about our government and how they can be an informed participant. The school I work at is a great school. Our school atmosphere is very welcoming and inviting. Many students are involved in multiple activities throughout the school year. My school has also focused a lot of professional development time teaching all of us how to be better reading and writing teachers. However, the school doesn't have enough funds to provide all of us with the classroom technology we need.

My Project

I never imagined I would need a document camera until I started focusing on implementing the new Common Core reading and writing standards. I spent last year learning new teaching skills for those areas and then implemented many of them into my classroom. However, modeling how to annotate an article or take notes a certain way is difficult without a document camera. Have a document camera would also allow me to show the class student work so they can learn from their classmates.

This will allow me to be a better reading and writing teacher.

My students will benefit from me being able to model new skills that I am trying to teach them. Reading and writing are two of the most important skills that a person can have. My students will benefit from those skills for the rest of their lives.
