This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all young artists. They spend a third of their day learning their craft, and the other parts focusing on academics. They consistently amaze me, both artistically and academically. They appreciate inspiring spaces and collaborative environments; so I try to make our classroom vibrant and inviting. But, we face many of the same challenges as other urban schools, including limited resources. I work to create the most positive environment possible so that each of my students feels safe, validated, and ready to learn.
My Project
I work to create a learning environment that is warm and welcoming, my classroom should be a place where students feel secure to take educational risks. It should be bright and comfortable.
The glare from the fluorescent lights is harsh and distracting this additional strain that fatigues my students.
By the end of the day, many students feel tired, and the harsh light exacerbates the situation. I use as many lamps as the outlets in my classroom will allow but on winter days we need more light. Filtering the light from the fluorescent bulbs will create a gentle, glare-free light that will give my students' eyes a break from the strain.
