My wonderful students come from the neighborhood around the school and are a delight to teach. We are a Title One school and the boys and girls represent a diverse population. Most of our students come to school not knowing how to speak English. We work with our students to not only learn the skills, but also the language. I love my position as the school librarian and enjoy seeing the classes once per week. I have worked with my students to do more research on science and STEM based topics. We have been using the online Encyclopedia Britannica and online World Book Encyclopedia to gather information. We have finally gotten enough tablets for each child to have their own during library class. We just need to keep them charged.
I teach kindergarten to 5th grade in a high poverty, inner city school district. Our school has a nice library that the students love to visit. We devote time during our library visits to do research. I incorporate a segment of our class each week to science and STEM research. Also, the children love when we visit websites that have live cameras that track animals. This year we are focusing on STEM online research projects. We have recently received new Fire tablets through other DonorsChoose projects. We love using them during class.
My students need to charge our tablets mid-day to keep doing research.
Research skills are important to my students and lifelong learning takes place in our library daily. We are currently using our new tablet, but they will not hold a charge for all six classes that come to the library. Please help us keep our Fire tablets charged with two charging docs and cables. This will keep us researching at a blazing rate.
