My Students

As most of my kids are college bound, they are eager to be engaged and learn important skills provided by science. My students want and need the most relevant tools to use as they learn science.

They want to use and learn with the most relevant and current tools because they want to be ready for the world that awaits.

They are eager to collaborate, investigate, and to share their knowledge of the concepts being taught. Building a base of equipment to enhance STEM learning is a priority for not only me, but them as well.

We are in a big city and big school, but they love to connect in the smaller setting of the classroom. When they learn to work in small groups and have the tools to actually do and try the principles being taught, the more excited they get about learning.

My Project

What do teenagers like just as much as their phones??? FOOD!!!

Any time you can weave food into hands-on learning experiences, it pulls them in like light to a black hole.

The science department has various plans to use a snow cone maker to reinforce many content areas. For example, in earth systems they study radioactive decay of earth's elements. What better way to model this than watching the slow drip of a melting snow cone speed up over time.

8th grade has a lot of content related to phase changes and what affects the rate of those phase changes. With water being the most critical substance on earth, why not use it weaved in disguised as a snow cone.
