This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have been part of an English/Spanish Dual Immersion program since they were in kindergarten. They are bilingual, biliterate and bicultural. They can speak, read, and write in both languages with fluency. They are caring and respectful of different cultures and people. They know that being bilingual is an asset in our global society. I’m confident that our future is in good hands with such thoughtful and caring scholars. Their curiosity is contagious and I am honored to be their teacher. Fifth grade was my favorite school year as a child, and I hope they enjoy their last year in elementary school as much as I did!

My Project

This colorful and vibrant STOPs 50 States and Capitals rug will make a difference in my students' learning by helping us create a more welcoming environment in our classroom, especially in our morning meeting area. In our classroom, we have morning meeting on a daily basis which helps us establish a strong, respectful, focused classroom community. We have the opportunity to get to know each other and discuss topics such as the importance of hard-work, perseverance, and working with others with different perspectives and life experiences.

In addition, this classroom rug will help my inquisitive students learn the 50 states and capitals, a grade level standard.

In our class, students have all selected a state and written a research report and presented their findings in front of their peers. This rug will further help enhance this learning.
