My Students
Special Education is not all that special, it is just a class where we can meet their needs. Accessible education means that each student can learn and grow in a supportive and individualized environment.
New to High School, this class of special education students are already rockstars.
They have shown their love for music, dance, arts, and having fun and I am already wowed by them. As the year gets underway I am so excited to bring the arts to them in a real and tangible way!
My Project
I have always called art the great equalizer. Students, no matter their ability, can make art. For kids with autism, the core subjects are sometimes out of reach, or something they struggle with. Arts give them an avenue to have fun, and create in a way that their peers do.
The arts help give a voice to students who struggle to use or find theirs.
Communication is a known difficulty for many students with Autism and having an outlet to communicate emotions is so important. Oh- and they are great learning tools!
