I have always called art the great equalizer. Students, no matter their ability, can make art. For kids with autism, the core subjects are sometimes out of reach, or something they struggle with. Arts give them an avenue to have fun, and create in a way that their peers do. The arts help give a voice to students who struggle to use or find theirs. Communication is a known difficulty for many students with Autism and having an outlet to communicate emotions is so important. Oh- and they are great learning tools!
