Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My students come from one of the lowest areas of DC. Our charter school is very academics focused and uses ALL of the school day for academics in order to help my 25 babies become successful future leaders. My class alone has a mix of different ability levels, from special needs to gifted, and many in between.

My students come from poverty in all senses of the term. They have seen it all. Unfortunately, they do not have the luxury of being normal 8 and 9 year olds with the fun, laughter, and games that you might see in wealthier parts of the city. Because the surrounding neighborhood is filled with homeless people and mentally disabled people from the building next door to the school, we are not permitted to take them outside to have recess. My recent goal is to find ways to bring laughter and fun into a learning environment. If we can't go outside, I want to make inside a lot of fun!

I would love to review all that we have learned with this amazing Jeopardy style game! In my mind I can envision my students' beautiful faces lighting up when they can buzz in and answer a review question. What better way to take their minds off of being inside all day but keep their minds active than a game of Jeopardy! This game will provide hours of entertainment, but most importantly, it will educate many young minds to come!

Help me make school and even more fun place to learn and grow. You can make that difference in the lives of my students. You can help me provide a game that mixes knowledge and entertainment for my incredible students. Please help them learn the saying, "The answer is...." I believe that the answer to a lifelong learner is one who is taught that learning can be fun at a young age!
