I get to teach diverse and amazing 2nd graders! We are a high poverty, high performing elementary school. Many of my students are faced with homelessness and poverty. About one third of our class are English Language Learners. Despite the adversity of home life, these kids work hard and make wonderful academic growth.
Throughout the school year, we work hard to create our school family, so that each child comes to school feeling safe, cared for, and ready to achieve.
Students will have a place to choose their own books and comfortable seats to read quality literature. These library book bins are sturdy and much better quality than the ones I buy at the dollar store every year. Students will use the bins to help them choose just right books that match their reading level.
The floor seats are bright and inviting.
This will spark students' interest in independent reading, because they are so comfortable.
Every child loves new books! It is important to me to find literature that reflects our classroom's diverse backgrounds. These three books have diverse characters that my students will identify with.
