The acrylic paints, and beads immediately sparked creativity and enthusiasm. Students could not wait to begin painting and designing their projects, and many were excited to share ideas about colors, patterns, and symbols connected to Washington State and the Pacific Northwest.\r\n\r\nDuring this project, students used the acrylic paints to carefully paint wood carvings inspired by Washington State art and nature. They also used beads to add decorative details and create meaningful designs connected to their learning. \r\n\r\nOne of the most special moments was watching students take pride in their creativity while discussing the artistic choices they made. The project encouraged collaboration, self-expression, fine motor skills, and cultural appreciation all at the same time. These materials provide alternative, developmentally appropriate ways for students to engage in learning while building essential motor and visual skills. Students who previously struggled with participation are now more motivated and willing to engage when activities are accessible, hands-on, and aligned with their individual strengths and interests.\r\nThese new options have also greatly expanded opportunities for student choice. By offering a range of fine and visual motor tools, students now have more choice in their therapy activities. This gives students autonomy over their learning and engagement which overall helps increase their buy-in, participation and benefit. \r\nOverall, the availability of diverse fine motor and visual motor materials has helped create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.
