My Students

How do I effectively reach 77 students where they are with no set reading book as the curriculum? My students are from a wide range of backgrounds, from economic to academic. Despite the overwhelming efforts and contributions from the district and community, there is still a gap.

How do I reach the highest of the high, the lowest of the low, and all that fall in between?

Our district is known for their inclusion program. This puts a considerable gap in academics even though our wonderful 6th grade teams try addressing the needs of all students. Our goal is grow each and every student!

My Project

We're up to know good this year in 6th grade! Because my students are from diverse backgrounds, I want to study novels that encompass and embrace this melting pot of culture while studying the good in the world!

Novels like The Cay, Missing May, and The Westing Game will allow my students to read complex texts, across different cultures and time periods, analyzing authors' craft on how they enhance the plot, characterization, and convey theme!

Each novel brings real-world applications that will further develop my students' young minds, preparing them for the world! What a challenge, but with the help of these novels, the challenge can be met!
