This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Leadership is one of the first words I think of when I imagine the students I teach. Our school serves students in grades 6-12 and teaches them not only academics but leadership skills beyond the comprehensive middle or high school. Over the past couple of years, we have become one of the top-performing schools in our district, and my goal is to continue with this trend. I've had students tell me, "This is the most I've ever read!" and I want this to continue to prepare them for college and life after high school.
My Project
These novels will help my students learn about post-colonial Africa set at the start of British colonialism. Things Fall Apart will help them to see Africa in a different light. My students will also discover a new colorful and enticing language that boldly spells Africa. Heart of Darkness will show a contrasting portrayal of the natives and of women.
By donating to our project, you will will help expose my student to diverse, expressive literature that will affect them for many years to come.
My students will continue to be exposed to rigorous literature that will help them do well on the AP Literature exam.
