My Students
Students in my school have grown up in an all-inclusive environment. They benefit from a diverse community that supports and integrates students with minor to severe disabilities in the general classroom. Here students learn to cherish differences and support one another. Students are paired both heterogeneously, so that students learn to work with different abilities, as well as homogeneously, receiving differentiated learning with leveled groups.
The students in my classroom are brilliant, and in first grade go from decoding words to reading chapter books!
They learn through integrated subjects and project-based learning. They excel at technology, benefiting from multiple different differentiated websites. To them, learning is both fun and accessible. They are cultivating a love of learning while recognizing that everyone has different strengths. They benefit from an education that focuses on kindness and mindfulness. My students are my life and I want to prepare them as much as I can to begin their education path.
My Project
My hope for my students is that they leave my classroom with an enriched understanding that their are many different perspectives in the world. I teach that diversity is something to learn from and celebrate. I believe that diversity focused literature and a love of reading are both huge aids in cultivating a multicultural classroom.
The items I am hoping to receive for my students will help them enjoy reading about different diverse communities and people.
The books chosen are written for children to explain stories of impactful people from disenfranchised communities. I will use these books to create many units including one that focuses on powerful Black historical women. I have also included some fun teaching resources to help in small reading groups.
