We are a Title 1 elementary school near Hill Air Force base. Our students are amazingly resilient and diverse. Some students are learning English as a second language. We need your help to launch a very exciting new Social and Emotional learning curriculum. We are very excited to better prepare students at the Elementary level to be global citizens who understand different cultures, social groups, and perspectives.
We know we can help raise a generation of leaders who are respectful and embrace diversity and have greater empathy because of this new program.
Please help if you can!
One thing this grant will do is to allow equity in art for all students of all races. Everyone will have the ability to draw and paint self-portraits with mediums that matches their skin tones. Rather than a black, yellow, or white crayon they will be able to use their real shade whether that is a medium golden, very deep almond, very light rose to extra deep golden or another shade.
My Project
These art supplies and books will benefit our school’s brand new Social and Emotional learning program so very, very much. These will 100% be used to support Diversity and Inclusion education and will be utilized by the School Counselor, Social Emotional coach, and art teacher often.
With the world more diverse than ever, these art supplies will increase equity for students by allowing for accurate self-representation in art.
This will help students with a greater sense of belonging and acceptance. Students will be able to draw and paint with actually skin colors rather than having to use black, yellow, orange or white.
The literature will help us as a school celebrate diversity, talk about similarities, and difference and help student’s self esteem as they are better able to verbalize things that make them special. We hope to teach students to ask thoughtful questions that are sensitive and appropriate. We hope to prevent bias and stereotypes while encouraging an interest and love for diverse cultures.
