Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a small town with a population of approximately 8,000. The school district strives to provide a quality education for all its students with a wide range of programs, and a talented staff dedicated to the needs of its students. The district serves more than 1,300 students in grades TK-8.
During the last academic school year, our site shifted to an intermediate school site and we now serve grades 5-8 on the school campus.
We are constantly growing and we currently have just under 600 students on campus this year.
Our school is committed to providing a strong instructional program for all students to ensure excellence in education. One of the main goals for our site is to create a college-going culture and mindset that builds the expectation that all students—not just the best students succeed at college.
My Project
Many of my students love to take their time to find books just right for them when picking books out of our classroom library. I am so glad they want to find books to fit their interests. However, I teach a group of students who often struggle to find books with characters like them.
These diverse books will allow my students to see themselves in the books that they read.
These diverse texts will allow all of my students to learn about people, families, and cultures that may be different from their own as well as their own cultural backgrounds.
