Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are silly, goofy, fun loving children who work hard to make the important people in their lives proud of them! They are learning their best to be good students, good friends and good people in the world and in our school. We are a self-contained special education 2nd and 3rd grade bridge class. Each student has come into this classroom with their own sets of needs and have rallied around each other to help each other attain their goals. In trying to build a great classroom community we need more access to diverse resources and points of view to help my students learn more about people outside of their neighborhood community!

My Project

These books will be a start to opening conversation about the diverse people, cultures and communities my students may not have ever come intocable contact with. To avoid the continuous problem of implicit biases that we all carry opening students eyes and perspectives to include those around them is the first step to full inclusion. In order to offer these experiences diverse literature showing students and characters that both resemble and look different from my students will be a low stakes starting point for diverse and meaningfully conversations! To push my students understandings of others and to promote diverse thinking these new books will be a welcome and necessary starting point.
