These books will be a start to opening conversation about the diverse people, cultures and communities my students may not have ever come intocable contact with. To avoid the continuous problem of implicit biases that we all carry opening students eyes and perspectives to include those around them is the first step to full inclusion. In order to offer these experiences diverse literature showing students and characters that both resemble and look different from my students will be a low stakes starting point for diverse and meaningfully conversations! To push my students understandings of others and to promote diverse thinking these new books will be a welcome and necessary starting point.
