Diverse Stories for Fifth Graders

Help me give each of my students a story to go along with our study of Jackie Robinson. This book, The Hero Two Doors Down, will build empathy and understanding in my students.

My Students

Fifth graders at our school learn and grow every single day. They are coming back from the pandemic with a thirst for knowledge. As hard as this year has been, our students have not given up. Our fifth grade team is determined to give them an amazing school year despite the challenges the past two years have brought.

We are building students who are global citizens who can take action when they leave our building.

At our school we focus on building an understanding of different experiences around the world. We are a new magnet school with a focus on global studies.

My Project

We will use these books to go along with our study of Jackie Robinson and other barrier breakers. The books will help to create connections for students and build understanding of the people we are studying, as well as create a space for deep conversation.

Sharing books with their peers will allow our students to see the experiences of others and connect those experiences to themselves.

We believe that stories are powerful and can change the way students view the world. "The Hero Two Doors Down" is a story that will inspire our students, and we are so excited to share it with them.
