This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I was always the kid who never had a crayon to match my skin. There was the peach crayon and the brown crayon and that what it. Now, Crayola and other art suppliers have crayons, pencil, markers, and paints that match ALL skin tones. Having these supplies in the art room will validate the differences that are around us, allow students to feel important in the art room as they draw self portraits, and help everyone be able to see themselves and others as beautiful and equal.

By having many skin tones available in art supplies, I can acknowledge the diversity that represents the students in my classroom.

My school is predominantly diverse, so offering more than a "brown" crayon is important and essential in my art room. Having this variety in skin tones will help my art students feel like they belong.
