My Students
I will be teaching a group of 3rd-grade students who are absolutely wonderful! Our school is rapidly growing and has a very diverse population from all economic backgrounds. We have many students who speak two languages and many students who have a parent in the military. We are located between two major cities and have a transient population. Many of our students also receive free or reduced-price lunch. Most of my students come to school eager to learn every day and are a great group of kids!
My Project
I am asking for a variety of books about different cultures. My current classroom library has very little diversity in the topics and people in the stories. My classroom is very diverse and I want my students to be given a chance to read stories about characters who are similar to them - and very different.
These books will be used for independent reading and read alouds. I hope by incorporating them into my classroom my students will learn about different cultures and how people of all backgrounds have had a difference in out country. It is important that everyone is exposed to cultures that are unlike their own.
