My Students

My students are awesome! These sixth through eighth-grade students come from a community in the heart of central Portland. The population at this school includes a variety of learners and a strong staff who are passionate about their roles in these children's lives. My students are eager to learn and they work hard every day to do so.

My students are English language learners who weave a rich fabric of languages, cultures, and experiences.

We are fortunate to share our experiences and understanding and learn from others in our classroom space.

My Project

We have a wide range of learners in our classroom with a variety of interests and reading levels. Often, students are drawn to graphic novels as a dynamic entry point for literature. It is awesome that graphic novels have the summoning effect on so many students; I plan to use that draw and diversify the inventory of our limited graphic novel selection.

I would like to provide books that reflect the students' experiences as well as broaden their understanding of humanity on a global level.

I chose books that teach about history through a variety of lenses as well as current dilemmas youths face. My goal is to broaden their reading scope.
