Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a first-year teacher teaching kindergarten. I absolutely love my students; they are so hardworking and they love learning. I have enjoyed watching them grow physically and academically these past few months. I have 20 students and each of them are different and special in their own way! Each day with them is unpredictable, but that is what I love most!
I am so excited to continue to watch them transform and grow throughout the rest of the school year.
My Project
I teach a very diverse population of students. They and their families speak many different languages, celebrate different holidays, and each bring something special to our class.
I would love to offer them a library in our class where they could read books about people just like them. As of right now, I have a select few books that include characters of color. My students rarely get to see kids that are just like them in the books that are currently in our classroom library. My students already love reading and I know that giving them the opportunity to read books with characters who look like them would deepen their love for reading!
