Our elementary school is "home" to almost 600 kiddos. Our school is pretty unique as we have a very diverse group of students in a rural community. We have many students who can speak more than one language and some students who are new to the country. More than 65% of our students receive a free and reduced-price lunch.
The students in my classroom come from all over the world.
I am fortunate enough to have so many different smiling faces in my classroom.
My Project
Preschool is a child’s first educational experience where they get to learn and play with new friends. These new friends will look, act and speak differently from one another. Teaching young children about acceptance is so important. This project will support this idea. The family bin will help me teach how families can be the same and different. It will give my students an opportunity to learn more about each of their classmates through play and talking. The emotion match puzzle will be used to teach my students about their feelings. Many of my students come to school with adverse childhood experiences (aces). In order to teach acceptance of diversity, I have to teach how to identify and manage emotions; how to have empathy and show compassion. The diverse faces will allow my students to use art material and play-doh to show their current feelings and how they see themselves and their friends.
