Diverse Characters for a Diverse Classroom

Help me give my students diverse books that reflect the complexities of my students' identities and those of their communities.

My Project

My goal is to have students find a book they absolutely fall in love with. Once that love of reading is sparked, it's difficult to extinguish! After students completed a shared reading of Jason Reynolds's book "Ghost," they requested more books that feature ethnically diverse characters and books created by ethnically diverse authors. They want to see themselves and others in books!

Materials purchased for the classroom library will include high-interest titles and their translated counterparts to ensure inclusivity within our team.

I cannot wait to share the new titles and perspectives of ethnic characters with my students through Literature Circles and take-home reading materials.
